Pharmacological effects:
Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride belongs to the tetracycline class of antibiotics. It inhibits bacterial growth by reversibly binding to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes and preventing amino-acyl tRNA from binding to the ribosome acceptor site. This results in the inhibition of protein synthesis and the suppression of bacterial growth and reproduction. Oxytetracycline has a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity, including against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Some bacteria may exhibit cross-resistance to oxytetracycline and other tetracyclines.
