OPE WAX for viscosity adjustment in hot melt adhesives
Oxidized polyethylene wax is employed for viscosity adjustment in hot melt adhesives, primarily functioning through the following mechanisms:
Viscosity Modulation: Within hot melt adhesives, oxidized polyethylene wax primarily functions as a viscosity modifier. Adjusting the wax dosage alters melt viscosity to accommodate diverse application requirements. For instance, during hot melt production, viscosity specifications tailored to specific applications—such as packaging or footwear bonding—are achieved by optimising flow properties and adhesion through precise wax addition.
Process Adaptability: Hot melt adhesive viscosity must coordinate with process parameters such as curing time and wetting properties. Oxidized polyethylene wax balances the viscoelastic characteristics of the adhesive by regulating molecular alignment in the molten state, preventing application difficulties from excessive viscosity or oil bleeding from insufficient viscosity.
Storage Stability: Possessing a narrow melting range and high softening point, this wax prevents agglomeration or separation in hot melt adhesives during storage caused by temperature fluctuations. Its antioxidant properties simultaneously extend the product's shelf life.
