Pneumatic Piston Gate Valve | API 6A Surface Safety Valve (SSV)
Yulin Machinery's Pneumatic Piston Gate Valve is a fail-safe surface safety valve (SSV)used to automatically shut in wellhead flow during abnormal pressure or emergency conditions. Built with a piston-type actuator, segment seal design, and high-strength compression springs, it is engineered for reliable fail-close performance in onshore and offshore oilfield applications.

How It Works
The valve operates in a fail-close configuration. During normal operation, pneumatic pressure in the actuator holds the gate open against inlet pressure. If an abnormal condition is detected, actuator pressure is released through a quick exhaust device, allowing the gate to close automatically — driven by inlet pressure on the valve stem and the compression spring force. Once conditions are normal again, the valve can be reopened by restoring pneumatic pressure to the actuator.
An optional vent port and slam-fire system can be configured to close the valve immediately in the event of gate failure.
Design Features
- Segment seal + Poly-pak design: Replaces traditional O-ring piston seals to prevent wear, misalignment, and distortion, extending actuator service life.
- Stem protection: Wear-resistant bearings separate the stem and valve rod from metal-to-metal contact, reducing twisting forces transmitted to gate and seat.
- Top-mounted seal assembly: Stem seal can be replaced without disassembling the actuator, with a rod scraper to extend service life of position indication components.
- High-strength compression springs: Industry-leading spring force ensures positive valve closure; springs ship relaxed for safe, tool-free installation.
- 360° rotatable actuator body: Bottom swivel plate allows full rotation to suit piping orientation requirements.
- Easy maintenance: Bonnet and actuator assemblies are designed for quick disassembly and field repair using standard tools (6 hex socket head cap screws).
