Corrosion and Scale Inhibitor
is an important water treatment agent, which is mainly used in circulating cooling water system, such as power plants, chemical plants, central air conditioning, etc. to prevent scale formation and metal corrosion. These products are usually compounded from a variety of ingredients, including chelating agents, dispersants, corrosion inhibitors, etc., which work together to achieve the effect of scale and corrosion inhibition.
What are Corrosion Inhibitors and Scale Inhibitors?
Corrosion and scale inhibitors are specially tailored chemicals that, when added at low concentrations in water, delay or prevent the formation of scale, which would normally form in water. Corrosion and scale inhibitors are similar to preventing scaling in washing machines, and similar chemicals are used. Ultimately, inhibition can be achieved by adding substances that react with the potential scaling material to achieve a thermodynamically stable region, or by adding substances that inhibit crystal growth. The use of these chemicals is therefore attractive because very low doses (a few ppm) are sufficient to prevent prolonged fouling of surfaces or equipment treatments. The exact mechanism of scale inhibitors is not fully understood.
