Crackle powder coatings utilize changes in factors such as the melt viscosity, surface tension, and curing speed of the powder coating during the baking and curing process, which cause the coating surface to shrink, thereby forming the crackle effect. Fillers with higher oil absorption are typically selected to inhibit the normal flow of the resin during film formation. This prevents the resin from fully encapsulating the pigment and filler particles, or allows only partial encapsulation, leaving gaps between the particles. Without sufficient resin to fill these gaps, a three-dimensional structure with pigment and filler as the framework is ultimately formed, revealing the primer color at the crack locations.
