El Monoestearato de sorbitan, también conocido como estearato de Sorbitol / SMS, se sintetiza mediante la Esterificación del anhídrido Sorbitol con ácido esteárico.Su fórmula molecular es c 24 H 4 6 o 6 .A temperatura ambiente, los sólidos son de color amarillo claro a amarillo granulado.El valor H LB del monoestearato de Sorbitol es de 4,7.Tiene una amplia gama de aplicaciones, como mantener la humedad de la levadura; mejorar la estabilidad de dispersión del aceite y el agua; emulsionar y estabilizar en cosméticos, medicamentos, piensos, recubrimientos, formulaciones textiles.Se utiliza generalmente en combinación con Polisorbato 6 0.
