Melt Index Tester
A Melt Index Tester, also commonly known as a Melt Flow Indexer or MFI Tester, is a crucial instrument used to evaluate the flow properties of thermoplastic polymers in their molten state. It measures how easily molten plastic flows through a standardized die (a small, calibrated opening) under specific conditions of temperature and pressure.
The result is typically expressed as Melt Flow Rate (MFR), in grams per 10 minutes (g/10 min), or Melt Volume Rate (MVR), in cubic centimeters per 10 minutes (cm³/10 min). These values provide vital insights into the material's viscosity, molecular weight, and overall processability, making the Melt Index Tester an essential tool for quality control, material selection, and process optimization in the plastics manufacturing industry.
Main uses:
The melt flow rate meter uses automatic sampling and balance weighing to determine the volume flow rate (MFR) of thermoplastic melts according to the formula.
Application range:
It is suitable for engineering plastics such as fluoroplastics and nylon, and also for the determination of plastics with low melting temperatures such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyoxymethylene (POM), polystyrene (PS), ABS resin, and polycarbonate. It is widely used in plastic production, plastic products, petrochemical and other industries and related colleges and universities, scientific research institutions, and commodity inspection departments.
