TheCommonPublicRadioInterface(CPRI)standarddefinestheinterfaceofbasestationsbetweentheRadioEquipmentControllers(REC)inthestandard,tolocalorremoteradiounits,knownasRadioEquipment(RE).ThecompaniesworkingtodefinethespecificationincludeEricssonAB,HuaweiTechnologiesCo.Ltd,NECCorporation,AlcatelLucentandNokiaSiemensNetworksGmbH&Co.KG.OBSAI,whichstandsfor"OpenBaseStationArchitectureInitiative",isaninitiativecreatedbyHyundai,LGE,Nokia,SamsungandZTEinSeptember2002withtheaimofcreatinganopenmarketforcellularbasestations.Theideabehindthisinitiativewasthatanopenmarketwouldsubstantiallyreducethedevelopmenteffortandcoststraditionallyassociatedwithcreatingnewbasestationproductranges.LTE,aninitialismoflong-termevolution,marketedas4GLTE,isastandardforwirelesscommunicationofhigh-speeddataformobilesanddataterminals.ItisbasedontheGSM/EDGEandUMTS/HSPAnetworktechnologies,increasingthecapacityandspeedusingadifferentradiointerfacetogetherwithcorenetworkimprovements.
LTE(LongTermEvolution)istheprojectnameofanewhighperformanceairinterfaceforcellularmobilecommunicationsystems.Itisthelaststeptowardthe4thgeneration(4G)ofradiotechnologiesdesignedtoincreasethecapacityandspeedofmobiletelenetworks.Wherethecurrentgenerationofmobiletelecommunicationnetworksarecollectivelyknownas3G(for"thirdgeneration"),LTEismarketedas4G.
