Boron Trifluoride, BF3 Specialty Gas
is a colorless gas witha strong smell at room temperature. It doesnot bum or support combustion. Itis 1.3times heavier than air and produces whitesmoke when mixed with wet air, with a punityhigher than 99.6%. Boron trifluoride cancorrode glass at room temperature, while wetboron trifluoride is very corrosive. BF3 isused as a catalyst in organic synthesis, as araw material for the synthesis of organicborides, and also used in nuclear technologyand optical fiber.
