Melting Point and Thermal Properties of L-Lysine monohydrochloride

Melting point (decomposition point): 263–264 °C (dec.). L-lysine monohydrochloride does not melt into a liquid at atmospheric pressure; instead, it undergoes thermal decomposition at ~263 °C, accompanied by deprotonation, deamination, and carbonization. This high decomposition temperature ensures thermal stability during conventional processing (e.g., food extrusion, feed pelleting, pharmaceutical dry granulation) at temperatures < 180 °C.
Glass transition temperature (Tg​): ~105 °C (for the amorphous form; the crystalline form has no distinct Tg​).
Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA): No weight loss below 200 °C (no water of crystallization or volatile impurities); rapid weight loss (20–30%) occurs at 260–300 °C due to thermal decomposition (release of NH3, HCl, and CO2).
