Raw material for pharmaceutical synthesis: It serves as a key intermediate for synthesizing various drugs, such as hepatoprotective drugs, antitumor drugs, and anti-inflammatory drugs. For example, S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), a derivative of methionine, is a widely used clinical drug for treating liver cirrhosis, depression, and osteoarthritis. DL-Methionine can also be used to prepare amino acid infusion, which is applied in clinical nutrition support for patients with severe burns, postoperative recovery, and malnutrition to supplement essential amino acids and promote tissue repair.
Hepatoprotective agent: DL-Methionine provides methyl groups for liver metabolism, participating in the synthesis of phospholipids and glutathione, which are important for maintaining the integrity of liver cell membranes and enhancing the liver's antioxidant capacity. It can be used as an adjuvant drug for treating liver diseases such as fatty liver and drug-induced liver injury, helping to reduce liver cell damage and improve liver function.
Biomedical material modifier: It can be grafted onto the surface of biomedical materials (e.g., polylactic acid, chitosan) to introduce hydrophilic amino and methylthio groups, improving the biocompatibility and cell adhesion of materials. Modified materials are used in the preparation of tissue engineering scaffolds and drug delivery carriers, promoting cell proliferation and differentiation.
