Types Of Surge Protection Device
SPD for Power Supply
Power surge protector, also known as the lightning protector, is suitable for AC 50/60HZ, rated voltage 220V/380V power supply system, to protect indirect lightning and direct lightning effects or other transient overvoltage surges, suitable for households The requirements for surge protection in residential, tertiary and industrial sectors include phase-to-phase, phase-to-earth, phase-to-neutral, neutral-to-earth, and combinations of protection modes.
SPD for New Energy System
New energy lightning protection devices(SPD) (also known as a surge protector, lightning protector, overvoltage protector, lightning surge arrester) are mainly divided into AC/DC lightning surge protectors for photovoltaic solar lightning protection and wind power plants. The DC voltage range is generally 300~1500VDC, and the AC is 385V, 480V, 690V, 1000VAC, etc.
Signal SPD
The signal line SPD is actually a signal lightning arrester, which is installed in series in the signal transmission line, usually at the front end of the equipment, to protect the subsequent equipment-all kinds of signal lines and equipment, and prevent lightning waves from influencing the signal line and damaging the equipment.

Surge Protection Device Working Principle
SPD is designed to limit transient overvoltages of atmospheric origin and divert current waves to earth, so as to limit the amplitude of this overvoltage to a value that is not hazardous for the electrical installation and electric switchgear and control gear.
The three types of SPD:
Type 1 SPD
The Type 1 SPD is recommended in the specific case of service-sector and industrial buildings, protected by a lightning protection system or a meshed cage.
Type 2 SPD
The Type 2 SPD is the main protection system for all low voltage electrical installations. Installed in each electrical switchboard, it prevents the spread of overvoltages in the electrical installations and protects the loads.
Type 3 SPD
These SPDs have a low discharge capacity. They must therefore mandatorily be installed as a supplement to Type 2 SPD and in the vicinity of sensitive loads.
