Pharmacological Action:
This is an antibiotic that has antibacterial effects against various gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus species, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Burkholderia cepacia, Salmonella species, as well as gram-positive bacteria including methicillin-sensitive and resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus. It is not effective against most strains of Streptococcus species, anaerobic bacteria (e.g. Bacteroides or Clostridium species), Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Rickettsia or fungi.
