is an energy storage device in fluid power systems that stores hydraulic fluid under pressure, typically using compressed nitrogen, to provide energy back to the system when needed, acting like a pressure reservoir. It smooths pressure fluctuations, absorbs shock, supplements pump flow for peak demands, and maintains system pressure, using various types like bladder, piston, and diaphragm designs.
How It Works
Charging: A pre-charged nitrogen gas bladder/piston is separated from the hydraulic fluid by a barrier (bladder, piston, or diaphragm).
Energy Storage: When system pressure rises (e.g., from the pump), hydraulic fluid enters the accumulator, compressing the nitrogen gas.
Energy Release: When system demand increases or pressure drops, the expanding gas forces the stored fluid back into the circuit, supplementing the pump's output.
