What Is a Epoxy Structural Adhesive?
A (also called 2K epoxy) is a chemically curing adhesive system consisting of a resin component (Part A) and a hardener component (Part B). When mixed at the specified ratio, a cross-linking reaction begins that transforms the liquid adhesive into a rigid, high-strength polymer capable of load-bearing, structural-grade performance.
Unlike pressure-sensitive adhesives or general-purpose glues, epoxy structural adhesive bonds are designed to carry real mechanical loads — shear, tensile, compression, and peel — making them a direct replacement for welding, brazing, riveting, or mechanical fasteners in many assembly applications.
Key distinctions:
One-part epoxy adhesive (1K): Pre-mixed and stored in a single cartridge; requires heat (typically 120–180°C) to initiate cure. Ideal for high-volume automated production lines with oven-cure capability.
Two-part epoxy structural adhesive (2K): Mixed on-demand at room temperature or elevated temperature; cure speed is adjustable by temperature. Preferred for field repairs, low-volume assembly, and mixed-substrate bonding.
