Overview:
Sesamin is found in the seeds or seed oil of plant sesame. It's a sesame extract.
D-type: needle-like crystal (ethanol), melting point 122-123 °C, optical rotation [α] D20 + 64.5 ° (c = 1.75, chloroform).
DL-type: crystal (ethanol), melting point 125-126 °C.
It is soluble in chloroform, benzene, acetic acid and acetone, slightly soluble in ether and petroleum ether. It is almost insoluble in water, alkaline solutions and hydrochloric acid.
