Cystine Disodium Salt
Cystine Disodium Salt can act as a bidentate or tridentate ligand to form stable chelate complexes with various metal ions, owing to the coordination ability of its amino groups, carboxylate groups, and disulfide bonds.
- Complexation with transition metal ions: It forms stable 1:1 or 1:2 complexes with Cu²⁺, Zn²⁺, Fe³⁺, and Cd²⁺. For example, the complex formed with Cu²⁺ has a characteristic blue color, with the metal ion coordinated by the amino nitrogen and carboxylate oxygen atoms. This property is used in the treatment of heavy metal poisoning, as Cystine Disodium Salt can chelate toxic metal ions and facilitate their excretion from the body.
- Complexation with alkali metal and alkaline earth metal ions: It forms soluble complexes with Na⁺, K⁺, and Ca²⁺, which helps improve the solubility of these metal ions in high-concentration Cystine Disodium Salt solutions and prevents the formation of insoluble precipitates in formulations.
