L-Cysteine S-Sulfate Na

Hydrolysis Properties of L-Cysteine S-Sulfate Na
The functional groups in L-cysteine S-sulfate sodium salt are prone to hydrolysis under acidic or alkaline conditions, and the hydrolysis pathway and products are closely related to the pH of the system.Acid-catalyzed hydrolysis: When the compound is dissolved in dilute acids (e.g., 0.1 mol/L HCl) and heated to 60–80 °C, the-S-SO3^-bond undergoes selective cleavage, generating L-cysteine and sulfuric acid. The hydrolysis reaction rate increases with the increase of acidity and temperature; prolonged heating at high temperatures (above 100 °C) will further promote the racemization of the chiral center of L-cysteine, reducing the optical purity of the product.Alkaline hydrolysis: In alkaline solutions (e.g., 0.1 mol/L NaOH), the hydrolysis reaction is more complex. At room temperature, the-S-SO3^-bond is cleaved to form L-cysteine and sodium sulfite; when heated to 80 °C or above, the carboxylate group does not undergo hydrolysis, but the amino group may react with the generated sulfite to form nitrogen-containing derivatives, resulting in a decrease in the purity of L-cysteine.Neutral hydrolysis stability: In neutral aqueous solutions (pH 6.0–7.0) at room temperature, the compound has good hydrolysis stability, with a hydrolysis rate of less than 5% within 7 days, which meets the requirements of long-term storage of aqueous formulations.
