Adjustable Applicator
BEVS1806 Adjustable Film Applicator is designed based on ASTM D 823 E with two built-in metric micrometer heads for adjusting the knife blade so that clearances of the blade can be accurately set from 0-10mm in 0.01mm increments.
The applicator consists of:
- A special anodized aluminum frame to guide the knife blade. The frame has two end
sections which serve as hand grips for the operator when drawing down wet films.
- A STAINLESS STEEL knife blade with a precision ground edge. The slides in slots in the
end sections which allows vertical adjustments of the blade.
- Two springs attached to the knife-blade and top plate. These exert an upward pressure on
the blade and maintain it in contact against the two micrometer spindles to retain gap
settings of the blade.
- Two precision made micrometer heads that can easily be set to give film thickness from
0-10mm in increments of 10 microns. The accuracy of the micrometer heads is ± 2 microns.
- Imperial micrometer heads are available if required.
- Complies with ASTM D 823 Practice E

Wet films of uniform thickness can be produced with the knife blade set for the desired
- Place applicator at upper end of test panel.
- Pour coating sample directly in front of knife-blade.
Before use check the zero settings of the micrometer heads as follows:
1,Place applicator on a polished plate glass of suitable size. Set micrometer heads to zero.
2,When the applicator is placed between the observer and a bright light the blade should touchthe glass from end to end and not lift the end section. The zero point should check within±1,division of the micrometer - this is set at manufacture.
If applicator does not zero and resettings are required proceed as follows:
Set the micrometer heads to zero, loosen the micrometer clamp set screws, press the knifeblade down onto the glass plate, press down the micrometer heads until their spindles are
contacting the blade and then tighten the micrometer clamp screws.
- There will have the film error as the knifeblade appears crack and transformation by the falling and crash. So take good care of the equipment when it is in process of use.
- Screw is not allowed to tear down as the calibration was already finished before delivery. Or it will have the error.
