装饰蜡线分为韩国蜡线、台湾蜡线及国产棉纱蜡线。（不包括走马蜡线和美式蜡线这类缝纫刺绣蜡线）韩国蜡线产品的制作工艺相当讲究，采用不经染色的优质涤纶纤维经过机器编织成半成品，再经过高温的环保无蜡机器使产品表面细腻光滑柔韧。其实韩国蜡线是不上蜡的，所以国外客户统称韩国蜡线为“环保蜡线”。
而台湾蜡线制作工艺与韩国蜡线大致相同，后半工序也是经过高温的环保无蜡机器加工而成。唯一的区别在于韩国蜡线是由编织机编织，而台湾蜡线是由无梭机织成。韩国蜡线表面呈蛇鳞状，非常细腻柔韧。台湾蜡线表面呈螺旋状。也就是大多数人口中的股绳。
最后是国产蜡线了，这种蜡线的制作工艺较多。有人称它为普通蜡线和棉纱蜡线。顾名思义，国产蜡线的原材料是棉纱。而棉纱必须要经过染色，在打蜡程序上与环保蜡线不同，国产蜡线采用工业蜡、水蜡上蜡。在成本上比环保蜡线要低不少。而现在的国外客户采购产品首选“环保”这就是为什么国产蜡线在出口方面不是太受欢迎的原因了。
