Methods of Non-Threaded Galvanized Pipe Connection

Inspecting the two pipes need to be jointed first. And both the diameter of the pipe and the roughness of pipe’s surface would tell you how to connect galvanized pipe well.

Method One

If the surface of non-threaded pipe is rough, obviously, coupling with a rough surface is required. When the edge of galvanized pipe is rough, grind it clean. You need to ensure that they slide relatively easily, which cannot be achieved with rough-edged pipes. And then try to wipe the non-threaded pipe with a towel and degreaser to ensure that the pipe is clean.

Method Two

Standard pipe coupling can be used for pipes with smooth surfaces. In order for the pipe to fit correctly in the coupling, you have to make sure that the galvanized pipe is flush with the wall of the coupling. If the above-mentioned operation is well done, then let us move on to the next method.

Method Three

If the diameters match, select standard couplings. On the other hand, if the diameters are different, select a stepped coupling.

Method Four

Align the carpenter’s level with the end of the unthreaded pipe to check whether the pipe end is square. If the ends are not even, cut the ends with a hacksaw or electric saw to make each pipe square. And then remove the rough edges of the pipe ends with a metal sander.

Method Five

Mark the depth of each coupling with a ruler and pencil to meet in the middle. Insert one of the two pipes. Align the pipe with the mark on the pipe. Then, insert the second tube into the connector. Insert them again to the necessary depth. Pick up the screwdriver and tighten the bolts until they firmly hold the pipe in place.

To connect unthreaded galvanized piping, you will need to use a coupling to place the two pipes together. Once you have selected the correct coupling, you will need to use fastening bolts and a torque wrench to keep the two pipes coupled.
