Phosphatidylserine is present in the biofilms of all animals, higher plants, and microorganisms. It is a very important component of phospholipids in cell membranes. Phosphatidylserine makes up 10 to 20 percent of all the phospholipids in the mammalian brain. It contains about 60 grams in the human body, half of which is concentrated in the brain. Compared to other phospholipids, phosphatidylserine is not fully synthesized by the body itself. It is found mainly in meat, especially in the brains, livers, and kidneys of animals.
