DL-Methionine, chemically namedDL-2-amino-4-(methylthio)butanoic acid, is a racemic mixture composed of equimolar amounts of L-methionine and D-methionine. Its molecular formula isC5H11NO2S, and the relative molecular mass is149.21 g/mol.
As a sulfur-containing amino acid, DL-methionine is a typical non-polar amino acid, and its physical properties are determined by the combined effects of its molecular structure, functional groups, and the racemic mixing state of two enantiomers.
