S45Cis a kind of high carbon steel grade which based on the standard of JIS G 4051- 2009. S45C steel has excellentweldability and machinability, and it can be subjected to various heat treatments. S45C is suitable for shafts studs, keys.

Heat treatment:
quenching temperature 820 ℃ ~ 870 ℃, water-cooled, tempering temperature 550 ~ 650 ℃,
Application:
Widely used in machinery manufacturing, this grade has good mechanical properties. But this is a medium carbon steel, Quenching performance is not good, this grade can be quenched to HRC42 ~ 46. if need a good surface hardness, and also need superior mechanical properties, usually do surface carburizing, so this can get the required surface hardness.
