High Pressure Filter Press

is a type of industrial filtration equipment designed to operate under higher pressures, typically ranging from 15 to 40 bar (217 to 580 psi) or more, depending on the application. It is used for solid-liquid separation where high-pressure filtration is required to achieve high efficiency and to handle challenging filtration tasks. High pressure filter presses are often found in industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food processing, mining, and wastewater treatment, where the slurry has difficult-to-filter components, and where enhanced pressure is necessary to increase filtration rates or dewater the sludge more effectively.

How It Works

Slurry Introduction: The slurry or mixture of liquid and solid particles is pumped into the filter press at high pressure. The slurry is introduced into the filtration chambers formed by filter plates and frames.

Filter Plates: The filter press consists of a stack of filter plates, each covered by filter cloths. The slurry is fed into the chambers between the filter plates. The filter plates are typically made of durable materials like polypropylene or stainless steel, designed to withstand high pressure.

Filtration Process: The high pressure applied forces the liquid to pass through the filter cloths while the solid particles are trapped, forming a filter cake in the chamber. The liquid that passes through the filter cloth is the filtrate.

Pressure Application: The application of higher pressure accelerates the filtration process and helps achieve better separation of solids and liquids, especially for more viscous or difficult-to-filter slurries. The pressure helps squeeze out more liquid from the filter cake, leading to drier solids and a higher quality filtrate.

Cake Discharge: Once the filtration cycle is complete, the filter plates are separated, and the filter cakes are discharged. The filter press is then cleaned and prepared for the next cycle.
