Natamycin
Natamycin is a polyene macrolide antifungal compound produced by the fermentation of Streptomyces.
In 1955, Struyk et al. isolated this substance from the culture medium of Streptomyces nadal isolated from the soil in the state of Natar, South Africa. At that time, it was called Pomerin. Four years later, Americans Burns et al. isolated a strain of Streptomyces Chattanooga from the soil and from its culture, and also isolated Tennessee fasciin. Later research proved that the two were the same substance, which was uniformly named natamycin by the World Health Organization.
