DL-tryptophan
In livestock and poultry farming, DL-tryptophan offers practical benefits: Amino Acid Balance: Animals (e.g., pigs, poultry) require L-tryptophan for protein synthesis, growth, and stress reduction. DL-tryptophan provides a reliable source of L-tryptophan, and while D-tryptophan is not efficiently utilized by most animals, it does not typically exert toxic effects in the amounts used in feed. Stability in Feed Processing: DL-tryptophan exhibits good stability under the high temperatures and pressure conditions used in feed pelleting or extrusion. This ensures that the active L-tryptophan component remains bioavailable even after processing, unlike some more heat-sensitive nutrients.
