Radiator
Radiatorsareheat exchangersused to transferthermal energyfrom one medium to another for the purpose of cooling and heating. The majority of radiators are constructed to function inautomobiles,buildings, andelectronics. The radiator is always a source of heat to its environment, although this may be for either the purpose ofheatingthis environment, or for cooling the fluid orcoolantsupplied to it, as forengine cooling. Despite the name, radiators generally transfer the bulk of their heat viaconvection, not bythermal radiation, though the term "convector" is used more narrowly; seeradiation and convection, below.
The Romanhypocaust, a type of radiator for building space heating, was described in 15 AD. Theheating radiatorwas invented byFranz San Galli, a Polish-bornRussianbusinessman living inSt. Petersburg, between 1855 and 1857.
