Titanium carbide hard rod drilling tool material
Titanium carbide round rods made of cemented carbide are high-performance materials fabricated through a powder metallurgy process, with titanium carbide serving as the primary hard phase and cobalt or nickel as the binder phase. These rods exhibit exceptional hardness exceeding HRC 85, along with wear resistance significantly superior to that of conventional steel. They maintain stable mechanical properties even in high-temperature environments above 500 °C. Characterized by extremely high dimensional accuracy, the diameter tolerance can be controlled within ±0.01 mm, and surface roughness can reach as low as Ra 0.02 μm. This makes them highly suitable for the manufacture of precision cutting tools and mold cores. When used to process difficult-to-cut materials such as stainless steel and titanium alloys, tools made from these rods demonstrate a service life 10 to 20 times longer than those made from high-speed steel, thereby substantially improving production efficiency. Additionally, due to their excellent electrical conductivity, these rods are suitable for use as electrodes in electrical discharge machining. In precision mold EDM applications, they ensure minimal electrode wear and high machining accuracy. The material also exhibits outstanding fatigue resistance, showing minimal susceptibility to cracking under repeated impact loading, which renders it appropriate for components subjected to high-frequency vibrations. In the nuclear energy sector, its superior radiation resistance enables its application as a tool material for machining internal components of nuclear reactors.
