On the surface of the valve stem of an automotive engine, after spraying chromium carbide powder, the wear of the stem can be reduced by 80%, and the major overhaul cycle of the engine can be extended. Chromium carbide powder has good wetting properties and is firmly bonded to metal substrates such as iron, nickel, and cobalt. The coating is less likely to crack.
