Cable extrusion tester
Applicable Standards
The tester adheres to international standards for cable mechanical testing, including:
ISO 6722-1(Road vehicles – Electrical cables – Test methods for compression resistance)
IEC Optical fibre cables – Mechanical tests – Compression)
UL 2556(Wire and Cable Test Methods for compression resistance)
SAE J2394(Automotive wire insulation integrity under pressure)
GB/T 2951(China's national standard for cable mechanical tests)
These standards ensure consistent evaluation of cable jacket durability, conductor stability, and resistance to crushing forces.
Working Principle
The tester operates bycontrolled compressive loading:
Sample Mounting: Cables or harnesses are placed between two parallel plates or a cylindrical indenter.
Force Application: A hydraulic or servo-electric motor applies a preset load (e.g., 10 kN) at a controlled speed (e.g., 50 mm/min).
Deformation Measurement: Sensors record cable elongation, jacket cracking, or conductor displacement.
Cycle Execution: The test runs until sample failure (e.g., insulation breach) or a predefined load limit.
Test Principle & Applications
Compression Resistance Testing (ISO 6722-1/IEC :
Cables are compressed to 50% of their diameter or subjected to 20.000 cycles of dynamic loading.
Pass/fail criteria: No conductor fracture or insulation degradation (e.g., <5% thickness loss).
Key Industries:
Automotive: Validating engine bay wiring and battery cables.
Aerospace: Testing in-flight entertainment and control system harnesses.
Telecom: Assessing fiber optic cable durability in underground networks.
The Cable Compression Testing Machine is indispensable for manufacturers developing robust cabling solutions, ensuring compliance with safety standards and minimizing field failures. Its precision and adaptability make it a cornerstone of materials testing in high-stakes industries.
