Polypropylene (PP), a product of propylene polymerization, stands out among plastics like PE, PVC, PS, and LDPE due to its high heat resistance. This makes it ideal for use in household appliances and food containers.

Characteristics of PP Plastic

Appearance: PP is typically a transparent white color, not as turbid as PE plastic. It is colorless, odorless, and non-toxic, making it safe for human and animal health. It can be mixed with colorful beads during production to create visually appealing products.

Physical Properties of PP Film

Heat Resistance: PP has the highest heat resistance among most plastics, withstanding temperatures from 130°C to 170°C. In comparison, HDPE can only tolerate up to 120°C for short periods, and LDPE up to 95°C.

Flexibility: PP is less flexible than PE, being stiffer and unable to stretch. It is prone to tearing and cannot withstand heavy loads, quickly deteriorating with minor cuts or tears.

Solubility: At room temperature, PP does not dissolve in organic solvents, even after prolonged exposure. It only dissolves in aromatic and chlorinated carbides at temperatures above 80°C. PP is a large crystalline polymer, providing greater chemical stability.

Mechanical Strength: PP has high mechanical strength, including tear and tensile strength. It is hard, strong, and non-flexible, making it suitable for yarn production but susceptible to tearing with small punctures.

Non-Toxic: Polypropylene is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. It burns brightly with a light blue flame, emitting a rubber-like smell.
Chemical Properties of PP Film

Burning Characteristics: When burned, PP emits a blue flame and smells like rubber. Like PE, it does not repel water, gas, or grease.

Chemical Inertness: PP is chemically inert with a melting point of up to 165°C, making it an ideal material compared to PE.

Chemical Stability: Due to the flexible hydrogen atom at the C-3 level, PP is prone to oxidation and aging without stabilizers. Under diffused light, it remains stable for two years. Under direct light, it becomes brittle and degrades within months unless stabilized (e.g., with 2% soot), which can maintain stability for 20 years.

Food Packaging: PP is commonly used to make food packaging. Single-layer boxes made from PP can be microwaved for short periods (2-3 minutes).

Safety: PP is considered safe for health, used in water bottles, baby bottles, and toys. Its lightweight and safe properties make it more expensive than other plastics.

Common Items: PP is used to manufacture packaging, plastic bags, and other common items.

High-Quality Items: Through block-type polymerization, PP is used to produce high-quality items such as industrial details, valves, and battery covers.
