Phospholipids

The biological properties of phospholipids
Phospholipids are one of the main components of biological membranes. They are arranged in a bilayer form and constitute the basic framework of biological membranes such as cell membranes and organelle membranes. This structure provides a relatively stable internal environment for cells and is also involved in important physiological processes such as transmembrane transport of substances and signal transduction.
Surface activity: Phospholipids have the effect of reducing surface tension and can form directionally arranged monolayer layers at gas-liquid or liquid-liquid interfaces, thereby altering the properties of the interface. This characteristic makes phospholipids have important physiological functions in living organisms. For instance, in the lungs, phospholipids in pulmonary surfactant can reduce the surface tension of alveoli, prevent alveolar collapse, and ensure the normal operation of respiratory function.
Interaction with proteins: Phospholipids can interact with membrane proteins to form lipoprotein complexes. This interaction is crucial for maintaining the structure and function of membrane proteins, and it also contributes to the localization and orientation of membrane proteins on the membrane.
